Bifocals are glasses or contact lenses that have two prescriptions in each lens that help people see objects both near and far. People with conditions such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism (all over blurry vision) and more commonly presbyopia (vision problems caused by aging) are typically prescribed bifocals or multifocals.

I am often asked by parents what is the “right” age for a child to start wearing contact lenses. The answer is there really isn’t a “right” age. It mostly depends on the child’s maturity and personal hygiene. Parents, themselves, are usually the better judge of this than I am. Also, a child must be motivated to try them. Sports, improved self-confidence, and nearsighted progression (increasing) are all good reasons for children to be in contact lenses instead of glasses.
